Inspiration Web Design was founded by web developer Fiona Coulter. She combines a strong professional background in computer programming, including many years experience writing computer software, with a strong artistic sense. Her belief is that websites should be beautiful as well as functional.

She began her professional career as an economist. She has a Master's Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, and worked for many years as a researcher, firstly at the LSE and later at the University of Bath.

She worked in the field of econometrics, modelling household incomes, taxation and benefits, and gained a lot of experience in working with large datasets such as household surveys. She found that much of her work actually consisted of computer programming, and gained experience in several computer programming languages. Probably the largest programming project that she undertook was the creation of a program modelling tax reforms for the Czech Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

As a result of this background her approach to web design is firmly based on an understanding of the underlying principles of HTML mark-up. Her layouts are normally hand-coded rather than relying on HTML-generating software, and are always standards-based. This leades to much cleaner coding, with designs that should be robust enough to work well in all the main browsers.
